Happy Pet Cam — Privacy Policy
Happy Pet Cam (开心宠物相机, “the app”) offers photos, videos, Live Photos, pet photography assistance, screen fill light, photo filters, voice recordings for pet attention, and photo extraction from recorded or imported videos. This policy explains how these features process information on your device and how you can manage permissions and local data.
Core capture, detection and photo extraction run on your device without an app account. The system requests permissions when needed. Reading this policy does not replace your choices about individual permissions.
1. How information is handled
The current app has no developer media upload, cloud recognition, advertising, usage analytics or cross-app tracking service. We do not sell personal information or use your media, recordings or detection results for model training. We cannot view your device’s captures or drafts from a server.
The app processes media, motion sensor readings and feature preferences locally for features you choose to use. This is separate from visiting an external support website or using system cloud services, as explained in section 7.
2. Permissions and their purposes
Camera
Used for the viewfinder, photos, videos, Live Photos and on-device pet detection and framing assistance. Denying access prevents camera capture and live detection.
Microphone
Used for video audio, Live Photo audio and voice recordings you choose to make. When Live Photo mode is enabled, preparation in the foreground briefly buffers sound from before the shutter; microphone use is not limited to the moment you tap capture. The corresponding audio capture stops when you leave Live Photo mode, stop the relevant recording or move the app to the background.
Without permission, you can still take ordinary photos and silent videos, but Live Photos and voice recording are unavailable. Pet attention sounds or your recordings played aloud may be picked up by the microphone in videos or Live Photos.
Motion & Fitness
Used locally for device orientation, level indicators and capture stability assistance. Readings are not used for health analysis, stored persistently or uploaded. If motion data is unavailable, these aids may be unavailable; manual capture remains possible.
Photos — Add Only
Requested when saving, to add photos, videos, Live Photos and extracted photos to the system Photos library. Without permission, the app cannot write to Photos. Follow the app’s instructions to manage Pending Saves or an imported video draft.
System video picker
Extract photos from a video uses the system Photos picker and receives only the video you choose to provide. The app does not request full-library read access or scan your entire library. Importing a selected video is separate from Add Only permission for saving.
3. Media and on-device algorithms
Live frames, photos and videos are processed on your device for preview, capture, cat and dog detection, subject locking, automatic capture, person-and-pet framing, photo filters and seasonal decorations, highlight selection and manual frame extraction.
Person-and-pet framing may detect face regions, but does not identify people by their faces or create biometric profiles. The app does not upload frames, detection boxes, image features, extracted photos or audio.
4. Local storage, drafts and cleanup
- Saved Photos: with your permission, captures are saved to the system Photos library and managed by the system. Deleting the app does not delete captures already saved there.
- Pending Saves: failed or unconfirmed saves may keep a local recovery copy. Open Help & Privacy → Pending Saves to retry or discard it. Copies do not expire automatically; storage limits restrict new capture rather than evicting accepted media. If storage or file protection fails, the app may only keep media for the current session. Follow the warning and retry promptly.
- Imported video drafts: the app keeps a local copy of your selected video, candidate photos, time range and selection state. Closing the screen, entering the background or restarting does not clear a draft. Saving candidate photos may leave the video draft available for further work. You can clear it or replace it after a new video imports successfully.
- Recorded-video highlight jobs: a separate video copy and job state may be retained to continue or recover on-device extraction. Processing can run in the background when the system allows, without requiring a network connection. The corresponding copies are cleaned up after completion; interrupted work may remain for a later retry.
- Temporary processing files: intermediate files are cleaned up when no longer needed. This does not mean leaving a screen deletes all drafts, recordings or recovery copies.
Persistent in-app copies of recordings, recovery media, imported drafts and highlight jobs use device file protection and are excluded from system backups. Protection levels vary: some recovery and background-processing files remain accessible after the device’s first unlock, rather than becoming unreadable immediately at every lock. These measures do not apply to media saved in Photos and cannot guarantee against data loss.
5. Voice recordings and preferences
You can save up to five voice recordings of ten seconds each to play familiar sounds for your pet. They remain in the app’s local storage, are not uploaded or transcribed, and are not used for voice identification. Preview or delete individual recordings in Pet Attention. Unfinished recordings are discarded on cancellation or interruption; saved recordings remain until you delete them or delete the app and its data.
Language, tutorial state, filter, fill light and other feature preferences are saved locally to restore your settings, not for behavioral profiling.
6. Local diagnostics
The app uses local system diagnostic logs to investigate faults and performance, with redaction of errors and paths. It does not proactively upload media, detection results or diagnostic logs. Whether system diagnostics are shared with Apple depends on your system settings and Apple’s practices.
7. System services, support website and feedback
If a video you select is stored in iCloud, the system picker may download it at your request. Whether saved media syncs to iCloud Photos also depends on your system settings. These system activities are separate from developer uploads by this app.
This support website is hosted on GitHub Pages. When you visit pages or use a GitHub support link, GitHub may process network requests, account information and content you choose to submit under its own rules. Read the GitHub Privacy Statement. These pages add no advertising, analytics scripts, external fonts or custom tracking cookies.
If you contact support, provide only the non-sensitive details needed to resolve the issue. Support information is used to handle your request; retention and deletion on third-party platforms are governed by those platforms. Do not submit private photos, videos, recordings, full logs, credentials or other sensitive information. Public feedback may be visible to others.
8. Security and data loss
We take reasonable local safeguards, but cannot guarantee absolute security or permanent recovery. Device damage, insufficient storage, system cleanup or deleting the app and its data may cause unsaved media, drafts or recordings to be lost. Check that important captures were successfully saved to Photos and manage backups according to your needs.
9. Your choices and rights
- Manage Camera, Microphone, Motion & Fitness and Photos Add Only permissions in iOS or iPadOS Settings.
- Delete saved media in Photos. Delete voice recordings, clear imported drafts or manage Pending Saves in the app.
- Change the app language or restore Follow System in Help & Privacy.
- Deleting the app and its data removes in-app local copies. The system’s Offload App option may retain app data. Media in Photos must be managed separately.
- For questions about information handling or applicable privacy rights, use Technical Support without posting sensitive personal information publicly. The developer cannot remotely access or delete your device’s data.
10. Minors
Minors should understand permissions and use the app with a parent or guardian’s guidance. The current app has no user accounts and does not proactively collect children’s identity information. Avoid sharing personal information through public support platforms.
11. Policy updates
If future features change how information is handled, we will update this policy and provide notice and separate permission choices when required. Features may vary by installed version; read this policy alongside the version you use.
12. Contact
For privacy or usage questions, see Technical Support and contact options. The Chinese and English pages describe the same information handling practices. Switch languages at the top of the page.
