Happy Pet Cam — Technical Support

Updated and effective: October 9, 2026

Happy Pet Cam offers pet photography assistance, photos, videos, Live Photos, screen fill light and photo extraction from videos on iPhone and iPad. This guide reflects current project features; older installed versions may not have every option. Core features work on your device without an app account.

1. Capture and Smart Capture

How do basic capture, timers and focus work?

Switch between Photo, Video and Live on the camera screen. Timers offer three, five and ten seconds; Photo mode also offers a 30-second burst. Before recording, choose the HD / 4K resolution and frame rate supported by your device. These cannot be changed during recording.

In ordinary preview, tap to refocus or touch and hold to focus and lock. During recording, tap to focus and lock. In Auto Capture, tap a detected pet to lock the subject and zoom automatically; tap the viewfinder again to release the lock.

How do I use Pet Auto Capture?

Open Smart Capture on the camera screen and choose Pet Auto Capture. The app switches to the rear camera in Photo mode and keeps looking for suitable moments to take photos automatically. Use the same menu to pause, resume or turn it off. When several pets are in view, tap a detection box to choose the subject.

Hold the device steady and keep your cat or dog clearly visible in good light. Small subjects, fast motion, obstructions, unsettled focus or low light may affect capture. It cannot guarantee a photo of every action.

How do I extract photos from a new recording?

Choose Photos from Video in Smart Capture to switch to Video mode and start recording. Tap the capture button to stop. The app keeps the original video and selects highlight photos on your device to save to Photos. The usual target is about eight photos; the actual number depends on the footage and device conditions. This works well for running or active pets.

Extraction takes time. Whether it continues in the background is controlled by the system; reopen the app to resume unfinished work. Battery, temperature or storage conditions may also affect processing. Check the app’s status messages and Pending Saves.

How do I extract photos from an existing video?

  1. Choose Extract photos from a video in Smart Capture and select a video with the system picker.
  2. Set an analysis range and use smart recommendations, or choose moments manually with the timeline and frame-by-frame controls.
  3. Tap candidate photos to view them larger, select the ones you want and save them to Photos.

A smart recommendation pass analyzes up to five minutes; work through longer videos in sections. Video files must be no larger than 2 GB, and up to 24 unsaved candidate photos can be kept. The system may need to download videos stored in iCloud; check network access and available storage.

Closing the screen keeps a local draft so you can continue later. Discarding the draft removes the app’s imported copy; a successful new import replaces the previous draft without deleting the original video in Photos. If a save is interrupted or unconfirmed, check Photos before confirming or retrying as prompted to avoid duplicates.

2. Pet Attention, filters and fill light

How do sounds, animations and voice recordings work?

Tap the Pet Attention shortcut to start, or touch and hold it to choose a sound or animation. Sounds work with either camera; animations appear only with the front camera. Sounds can trigger photos, videos and Live Photos. Adjust the capture delay after playback starts and sound repetition in the attention settings. In Video mode, starting sound attention also starts recording; tap the capture button to stop recording. Animations use the front camera and a startup countdown; follow the on-screen instructions. Tap the attention shortcut again to stop attention.

In Pet Attention → Your voice, record, preview or delete your voice. You can keep up to five recordings of ten seconds each. Recording requires microphone permission. If playback is silent, check the device volume, audio output and playback state. Played sounds may also be recorded in videos or Live Photos.

Do filters apply to videos and Live Photos?

Photo mode provides a live preview of pet filters with adjustable strength from 0–100%, and applies the selected effect when saving ordinary photos. Birthday, Christmas, Lunar New Year, Winter Solstice and Pumpkin themes include decorative effects. These photo filters do not apply to videos or Live Photos. Choose Original for ordinary photos without the filter effect.

How do front and rear fill lights differ?

The front camera uses screen fill light with adjustable color and brightness, in one or two colors. Two-color mode supports left/right or top/bottom layouts, a draggable split and tilt adjustment. Swipe across the fill light area outside the viewfinder to change presets. On iOS 17.2 or later, the front-camera capture screen also supports volume-button preset changes.

The rear camera uses the device’s torch or photo flash where supported; videos use continuous torch light. Availability depends on the device and lens. Set screen fill light brightness before recording; brightness is locked during recording. The app restores screen brightness when leaving the relevant capture state.

3. Permissions, saving and troubleshooting

Why are Live Photos unavailable?

Live Photos require a supported device and lens, plus microphone permission. In Live Photo mode, foreground preparation briefly buffers sound from before the shutter. It stops when you leave the mode or move the app to the background. Without microphone access, ordinary photos and silent videos remain available, but Live Photos do not. Check this app’s permissions in system Settings.

Where are captures saved, and what if saving fails?

Successfully saved photos, videos, Live Photos and extracted photos appear in the system Photos library. Saving requires Add Only permission. Importing accesses only the video you choose in the system picker and does not scan the entire library.

For failed or unconfirmed saves, open the camera screen’s ⓘ → Help & Privacy → Pending Saves and follow the instructions to retry, confirm or discard. Check Photos permission and available storage first. Resolve existing items if the pending queue reaches its limit. Confirm important captures are saved before deleting the app and its data. If the app warns that media has not been safely written to disk and asks you not to quit, keep it open and retry after resolving storage conditions.

Where can I change languages or revisit the tutorial?

Open ⓘ → Help & Privacy to revisit the tutorial or change the app language. Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, English, Japanese, Korean and Indonesian are supported. Choose Follow System to restore system language preferences. After you complete or skip the first tutorial, it will not open automatically at every launch. On iPad, the app supports portrait, landscape, Split View and window resizing.

What if the device gets warm or processing slows down?

Continuous preview, recording and video analysis use more power. Pause capture, let the device cool, check storage and shorten the video analysis range. The system may restrict background processing; reopen the app to check progress. Avoid deleting the app while you still have unsaved media.

4. Privacy at a glance

Detection, filters and photo extraction run on your device. The app has no account, advertising, analytics or media upload service. Recordings, recovery media, imported drafts and unfinished extraction jobs may keep local copies excluded from system backups. Photos and iCloud follow your system settings. Read the full Privacy Policy.

5. Contact support

Report a problem or suggestion on GitHub Issues, or browse existing issues. Submitting requires a GitHub account; reading this website does not require sign-in.
